About 180 Habits

This started because the content that existed was rubbish. Clinical pamphlets written by people who'd never had a craving at 3am. Apps built by wellness companies who thought a meditation bell would fix a nicotine addiction. We needed something better. So we built it.

What 180 Habits Is

180 Habits is a set of evidence-based guides, tracking tools, and a recovery meeting finder for people quitting alcohol, cigarettes, vaping, cocaine, opioids, kratom, gambling, porn, and other habits. It covers the hard stuff: what withdrawal actually feels like, what the research says about cravings, what works and what doesn't. No fluff. No filler.

The site now hosts over 360 pages, including guides for 15 substances and behaviours, a meeting finder covering 85,000+ AA and NA meetings across Australia, the United States, and Canada, and a growing library of resources on sobriety, habit change, and recovery psychology.

What "180" Means

A 180 is a change in direction. Not a miracle. Not overnight. Just a decision to go a different way, and then doing the work to get there. That's it. There's no secret formula here. Just better information and tools that make the change slightly less brutal.

How We Write Content

Every article on this site is built on peer-reviewed research. We reference clinical guidelines and published studies from:

  • World Health Organization (WHO) and the ICD-11 diagnostic classification
  • National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)
  • National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)
  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
  • Cochrane systematic reviews
  • PubMed-indexed clinical studies from journals including The Lancet, Journal of Clinical Medicine, and Addiction

Claims are linked to their sources wherever possible. When we cite a statistic, you can check it. When the evidence is uncertain, we say so.

But research alone isn't enough. The content is written from lived experience, because someone who has actually sat through nicotine withdrawal at 2am writes differently than someone who hasn't. We aim to be accurate and readable, because there's no reason you can't have both.

Who Writes the Content

The content is written by Benjy. You can read more on the author page.

Editorial Independence

180 Habits is independently operated from Australia. We are not funded by pharmaceutical companies, treatment centres, or insurance providers. We recommend tools and apps (including Weally, our companion app) based on genuine assessment, not sponsorship. All affiliate or ownership relationships are disclosed on the page where they appear.

Accuracy and Updates

Content is reviewed regularly and updated when the evidence changes. Every article shows its last updated date, and we audit the full site periodically to catch stale information.

We are not doctors, and nothing on this site is a substitute for medical advice. Read the medical disclaimer before you rely on anything here. If you are in withdrawal or experiencing a medical emergency, call your local emergency number or visit the crisis support page.

If something on this site is wrong or outdated, tell us. Getting it right matters more than being first.

If you're in a hard spot right now, start with crisis support. Everything else can wait.
